This overhaul marks the most significant update in more than a decade, responding to the evolving needs of the industry and aiming to propel Australia’s clean energy transition forward.

One of the standout features of these updates is the restructured pathway to becoming an accredited solar and battery designer. Previously, engineers and electricians were the primary participants in the design pathway. The landscape has evolved with the introduction of a new electrical design pathway, making accreditation more accessible to a broader audience. Previously, individuals from non-engineering and non-electrician backgrounds could undertake the design pathway, but it often required a substantial investment of time and cost in prerequisite electrical knowledge study. Now, there’s a more direct and accessible route to design accreditation for non-electricians.

Training Evolution for Industry Growth

The push for these changes came from an extensive review led by the Clean Energy Council, Energy Safe Victoria, and industry stakeholders. Addressing skills shortages, raising industry standards, and creating more job opportunities were key drivers behind the restructuring. The Clean Energy Council’s “Skilling the Energy Transition” report highlighted the pressing need for skilled professionals to support Australia’s clean energy goals, paving the way for this comprehensive update.

Yes! As of December 2022, new Nationally Recognised Renewable Training Units were released. This release contains a complete rewrite of all the existing accredited solar/battery installer/designer training units, but that’s not all. More roles such as Sales and Support team members employed in the solar industry now have access to formal training. Plus, there is a new pathway for those team members to become accredited solar and battery designers, with no prior knowledge or qualifications.
This creates an exciting opening for administration, support and sales team members across the Australian renewable energy sector, to upskill with nationally recognised training.

Yes, our Certified Designer course is specifically intended to equip students with the necessary training to be able to apply to become a Clean Energy Council Accredited Solar and Battery Designer. Our Consultant Course package is the first step on the Certified Designer pathway. 

Yes, all of our training is designed for Australian standards and based on our collective experience in this industry. Additionally, we have designed our courses to be interactive online training with practical, real world assessments.
